The PolitiFact Texas fact-checker will carry the banner for the first state outpost of the national PolitiFact operation. Applicants should have experience covering public policy and politics, with an engaging writing style. We're looking for someone who enjoys getting in the policy weeds but has an ability to boil down a complicated issue for a general-interest audience. The PolitiFact Texas reporter must be tenacious in pursuing information on the record and turning fact checks on tight deadlines.
The PolitiFact Texas reporter also would be expected to promote the work product on social media and in public, through appearances on radio and television, and collaborate with editors and reporters at other Texas newspapers and the national PolitiFact office.
PolitiFact is a fact-checking website that rates the accuracy of claims by elected officials and others who speak or issue statements in public life. PolitiFact's core principles are independence, transparency, fairness, thorough reporting and clear writing. The fact checks are intended to give citizens the information they need to govern themselves in a democracy.
Interested applicants should send five clips, a cover letter and resume to Bob Gee, state editor, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
